How I spent Dr Seuss Day

Wow! I had such a great time sharing my adventures with my new friends at Lockwood Elementary School in LA in honour of Dr Seuss Day. Karin Pinter got to draw a lot of owls for the kids, and they were happy to get some photos with us too!

I love hanging out with the kids… they ask such great questions, like, “How long did it take you to write the book?” and “What would you tell someone who doesn’t think they’re good at doing something?”

I had a great answer to that last one… “Stop telling yourself you can’t, and start telling yourself that you can!

In my book you’ll find me reflecting on something precious my dad told me as a little owl growing up, “I can, I want to, and I will.” It became my mantra, especially when I decided to fly from Spain to Canada, which is the big leap of faith that inspired my book.

So here’s to you using this simple mantra to inspire yourself to keep doing more of what you like, no matter what number you put on your birthday cake!

They’re all so creative, and they love drawing and writing as much as I do. Three hoots to that!!

I have to confess, one of my favourite quotes from Dr Seuss is this one:

“You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child.”

Thank you to Ruth, Katie and Mr Castillo for making this a great day for owl of us.

What inspiration have you found reading Leap of Faith?

Love & hoots,

Niki
